General Outdoor Range Rules

1. SAFETY is foremost in all activities conducted at this range.

  • Know and obey all range commands
  • Know where others are at all times
  • Shoot only at authorized targets. No ground targets (cans, bottles, etc.. Pin paper targets to target backers not on the wood frames.
  • Eye and hearing protection requires that all individuals must wear eye and hearing protection while using this firing range!
  • No shooting before 9:00 a.m. Shooting will stop ½ hour before sunset.
  • No alcohol or controlled substances will be permitted in the range.

2. No individual will be allowed on the range who is under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

3. Minor children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to supervise.

4. Range Officers are in charge of all operations on this range.Individuals will follow the instructions of the Range Officer. Any individual not following the commands or instructions of a Range Officer, or not following good firearm safety, will be asked to leave the premises. In the absence of a Range Officer, individuals will adhere to above safety rules and coordinate with other shooters.

5. Firearm Operation/Safety: It is the responsibility of the individual to know how to operate their firearm in a safe manner- rifle, pistol, shotgun, muzzleloader or air rifle.

6. Firearm Loading Capacity:
Firearm loading capacity will be determined y the special event or competition you are involved in. During Sight-In Days (range open to the public) firearms may only be loaded with one round at a time to be fired. No full magazines and no automatic firing unless permission has been granted by a Range Officer.

Additional Range Rules

  • Special Events- The shooting hours may change for special events if authorized by the Directors/Chief Range Officer before the event takes place.
  • To All Smokers- SMOKERS ARE ASKED TO PICK UP THEIR BUTTS (FILTERS) AND PUT THEM IN A TRASH CAN. FIELD STRIP ALL OTHER SMOKING MATERIAL ETC. DO NOT PLACE HOT SMOKING MATERIALS IN TRASH CANS USE BUTT CANS (PAINTED RED).
  • To All- 
    Paper targets on proper target backers are the only targets allowed on the range.
  • Don't pin targets to target frames.
  • No 50 Caliber BMG.
  • Please do not use hollow point ammunition on the polyfoam targets.
  • The Wurtsmith 300 Yard Range is restricted to members in good standing only, except during scheduled ISC events or when a non-member is accompanied by a member in good standing.
